Something new

I learned something new a few weeks ago. I learned how to can and make BBQ sauce at the same time. Although, I think canning is the greater accomplishment. I wanted to do something that was nice for the dad's in our family and found this BBQ sauce recipe that looked and sounded super good. I also wanted it to last more than 2 weeks in the refrigerator and I didn't want to give them a frozen gift.

My mom is on vacation and came up and helped me with the canning process. She brought her pressure cooker and we canned with great enthusiasm (at least I did, anyway!). It excited me to learn something new, however, it made me incredibly nervous sticking glass in boiling hot water.
For the BBQ sauce, I used this recipe from Annie's Eats. It was quite tasty, but I probably should have simmered it for the full 3 hours, but was in a hurry to go shopping before it got too hot and nap time came. I look forward to using it on some chicken in the near future!

Oven update: All hopes of having my oven fixed have been thrown in the trash since a 27inch oven is too small for the space provided. It appears that nobody knows what they are doing and it is incredibly frustrating. We'll see if this gets resolved by Christmas.

new background and banner

so it is the weekend. . . and i am exhausted, thanks to the kiddo waking me up at 5:30 this morning for some cuddle time (possible nightmare or teething). and in honor of it being the weekend, am considering not using capitals. . . hmm. . . . not going to work!

I spent some time this weekend playing with backgrounds and banners from CBOTB along with the free software paint.net. So much fun! I have to admit I am most impressed with the banner here. Let me know what you think. . . I am curious.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I am off to do a little bit of baking. . . some new raspberry chocolate bars while the hubby is doing the air forecast. Looking forward to it! I will post pics and recipe soon!

More later!

The Brown Butter Cookie Company

This past weekend, I (along with my husband and son) spent the weekend in Cayucus. It was his family's annual retreat to the coast and a ton of fun! While we were there, we discovered this quaint and scrumptious little cookie shop. I really wanted to let you know about it because their cookies were so delicious. I also thought it was cool because I just happened to make my brown butter chocolate chip cookies for the weekend and we found a store that specialized in making cookies with brown butter. They have a special recipe for a brown butter cookie and brown so much butter just for those that they just keep their regular recipe for their peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies. All in All, this place was so friendly and welcoming. . . plus they gave a sampling of their cookies when you walked in! You can even order their cookies online. So, if you are ever in Cayucus. . . I highly recommend you treat yourself to some amazing cookies!
